WWE’s Chris Benoit Dead

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

UPDATE:

Alot has happened since this was first posted. It seems that Chris Benoit murdered both his wife and son and then committed suicide. This really is a horrible series of events, especially when there was a tribute show to him by the WWE last night. I dont really feel that much more needs to be said about this as it is really not a nice story, but if you want to keep up to date with it, there is a story here with all the details.

Today is a sad day for wrestling fans as WWE’s Chris Benoit has been found dead alongside his wife in their family home.

Chris BenoitAs most of you will be aware, I no longer follow wresting, but I do still have alot of respect for the athletes who decide to take up this hard life. When i was a fan, Chris Benoit was one of my favorite wrestlers due to his consitantly high quality matches, and hard work.

There aren’t many details around about this, but it is being investigated as a ‘possible double-murder suicide‘.

If this does transpire to be the case, I think a long hard look needs to be taken at the wrestling industry, and the pressures that are placed on the people involved. Far too many ‘dubious’ deaths seem to come out of this entertainment industry, and I’m not sure these can still just be passed off as coincidence.

Anyway, my condolances to Chris Benoit’s family, and to the wrestling world.

Kurt Angle released from WWE

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Kurt AngelYes, i’m in shock too. Kurt Angle has been released from the WWE.

Now, i don’t watch WWE a whole lot any more, although i did briefly follow ECW when it started again (although it was rubbish, so i’ve pretty much stopped), but it seemed to me that Kurt Angle was still a very big player.

This news comes as a bit of a surprise really, as when i did follow the WWE, Kurt was always one of my favorite wrestlers, whether face or heel, purely because he could carry a match with anyone. It was also nice to know that he genuinely had the abilities that were claimed since he had an Olympic Gold Medal.

I wish i knew more surrounding these ‘personal issues’, as from what i can see, Kurt has always give alot to the WWE, rushing through surgery just to get back to the ring and pulling in crowds when others couldn’t, and unless this is something very serious, i think its incredibly poor show on WWE’s part. No surprise there I guess…

I look forward to finding out more about this one.

WWE Royal Rumble 2006

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

In between learning my lines, i managed to find time to watch the Royal Rumble last night. I havent watched WWE in a while as i’ve moved on to TNA more recently, so wasnt sure how much i’d enjoy it.

I actually thought it was an extremely enjoyable event! And what a great outcome… I must admit, i thought it was a tad predictable when HHH and Orton were in the last three left, and was expecting a relatively predictable outcome (as i have come to expect from the WWE). I was pleasantly surprised. And good on the WWE for paying homage to Eddie Guerrero :) RIP
The surrounding matches were fairly average, and I dont think many people watch the rumble for those, and never understand why the Rumble isnt the Headline event! And how Mark Henry ever ended up in a headline slot i’ll never understand - ah well… at least Angle can carry a match with anybody!

All in all, an event well worth a watch (as usual).
