i expect more from franchises that once were the joys from my childhood.

mp3 is mp1 with light gun controls, tp is ocarina with one animal form from majora...

and both have horrid graphics. nintendo, you sold out your fans.

Hey,

I do see your point Andy. I mean, I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy but I must admit that my 360 has seen more love this year, and at the moment I'm loving the Wii as my retro console due to the amazingness that is the Virtual Console! (Although not loving getting my ass kicked at Mario 3 by my fiance!)

I think a lot of the problem is that just as third parties were caught out by the success of Wii (so they didn't start development on the console early enough) maybe Nintendo were as well...the line up has been sparse at best with quite a few hold overs from Gamecube being ported with added waggle. I mean, Mario Party 8 could have been an excellent title for the Wii but really didn't use the controller in any brillant way.

That's not to say that the lineup is poor - there are some excellent titles out there, both 1st and 3rd party including Trauma Centre, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Strikers, Super Paper Mario (the latter is a tad wordy, but still amazing and I'd recommend for those feeling a bit let down by the Wii).

We've also got some excellent stuff to look forward too in the next few weeks and months including Super Mario Galaxy (which looks amazing), Mario and Sonic at the Olympics (Wii Sports 2?), Super Smash Bros Brawl (I don't think I need to say anymore - online battle Andy?), Mario Kart Wii.

The Wii isn't dead yet! Developers cannot ignore how well it is selling, and will start to move their A teams to develop on it rather than pilling shovel-ware shite!

Yeah, i know, i dont really agree with him totally, tho it was amusing. I'm a big zelda fan, and i dont really want to see too much change. Tho the points he raises aren't dis-similar to some that i've raised here...

Heh, I enjoyed that :)

He makes some fair points, and it is like every other Zelda game; it would be good if there was something a little different. That said, the control scheme is different, and makes the best use I've seen of the stylus on the DS. It's also a kind of Zelda not seen before on a handheld (although it is, pretty much, WindWaker).

"I can brush off Galaxay the same way I brushed of Battalion Wars 2, because firstly, they are just single games, and a single game doesnt make a console, and secondly, I havent played them yet, they arent out yet, so how can I really pass judgement based on those games?!!? And, ultimately, as I said, they are a remake of already successful franchises - money spinners, if you will. Of course, I’m not saying that this makes them bad, but I cant know yet!"

When I first mentioned BWii (and MP3), you said for me to look at your line about Twilight Princess, I do say, just brushing off BWii and MP3 because you have "Played" them before.
Non of the Metroid Prime games have been reused and recycled, they've all pretty much been unique save for the various Metroid (series) given things.
You're right, at the time of the post BWii wasn't out yet, but it is now, however, the release is irrelevant.
A single game doesn't make a console, however as praxis said, Halo made Xbox, without Halo, MS would have been screwed to oblivion.
Galaxy and BWii are sequels, you can't pass judgment on them, and you shouldn't, so why are you brushing them off?

IMO Halo made the original Xbox, it was only one game, but I can think of only a few that bettered it :)

I don't think any company has the consumers best interest at heart, all they want is your money. If this isn't how they operate as a for profit business, they're doing something wrong. I can certainly see the case for enlightened self interest, but you're only ever as good as your last game in this industry, and gullible kids/teenagers aside, you don't get too many bites at the cherry if you screw up.

Rex,

Crackdown was great, A little too short, but it had a little of everything, and the running and jumping about, especially finding inventive ways to enter and exit buildings, and getting from point A to point B quick was huge fun. I avoided most of the heavies on the last boss by jumping over from an adjacent building and blowing out a window. I also appreciated the free form aspect of it. It could have been crap, and people would still have bought it for the Halo3 beta, but the fact that it was actually a good game, was very much appreciated.

That said I also had a great experience on the cube with "Ace Golf" which was also a bargain bin affair. Kept me and a friend engrossed for about a month. There is a Zen to it, of picking the right club and then hitting it just right. Same as the volleyball game on extreme beach volleyball on the Xbox. fabulous when you get the timing right, and a real annoying when you get too fancy, and screw it up. Much like Wii tennis in fact.

That said I was amused to see that the cube actually sold on par with the original Xbox Number wise. Unlike Sony and MS, Nintendo make a profit on every box they sell.
